About TanzAnimation
A Tanzanian–Danish collaboration strengthening skills, networks, visibility and opportunities for Tanzanian animators, studios and creative professionals.
Focus areas
Four connected areas help turn individual talent into a stronger, more visible and more sustainable animation sector.
Mapping the ecosystem and identifying sector needs.
Supporting skills development for animators and creative professionals.
Connecting Tanzanian and Danish partners through collaboration.
Building visibility, networks and long-term opportunities.

Our first project
Film Lab Zanzibar initiated the first TanzAnimation event together with The Animation Workshop, Denmark. Working with peers from AIDI, TAI and Triggerfish, the partners developed a pilot workshop for Tanzanian producers, animators and educators.
The programme combined animation art expression with business development and production management. Participants explored how Tanzanian animation can develop its own visual identity while strengthening skills in fundraising, budgeting, co-production, cross-border distribution and the global animation business.

Our second project
TanzAnimation 2 builds on the successful 2022 pilot to support new career opportunities, sustainable industry growth and a flourishing creative economy. Funded through GLOBUS under the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is a long-term partnership connecting Tanzanian and Danish institutions.
Hands-on workshops in animation, storytelling, character design, production and business skills.
Joint projects, mentoring and knowledge sharing build networks and long-term collaboration.
Selected Tanzanian talent joins a practical residency at The Animation Workshop / VIA University College in Denmark.
Surveys, interviews and experimentation identify opportunities and support original Tanzanian IP.
Research and development
Research is built into the programme so training and exchange respond to real industry needs. Surveys, interviews and collaborative testing help identify skill gaps, market opportunities and practical barriers facing Tanzanian creators.
This R&D approach turns sector evidence into useful recommendations while supporting experimentation, original Tanzanian intellectual property and stronger pathways from learning to professional production.
